There are love stories that begin with love at first sight, and there are others that need a little more time, a few twists and turns, finding each other again, and shared experiences before two people know for certain that they belong by each other’s side.
Merci and Máté’s story belongs to the latter.
I had the pleasure of conducting their wedding ceremony at Polyák Winery, where, as their wedding celebrant, I created a ceremony built around their real story, their personalities, and the wonderful sense of humour that is so characteristic of their relationship.
A Story That Didn’t Have the Smoothest Start
Merci and Máté’s relationship was not the classic “I saw you and instantly knew” kind of love story.
At first, there was curiosity, a little distance, and then life brought their paths together once again.
From that point on, they truly began writing their story together.
There were long conversations, arguments, reconciliations and fresh starts, but in the end, they always found their way back to the same place: to each other.
And perhaps that is exactly what made this story truly theirs.
Not because every moment was perfect, but because they chose each other again and again.
Since September 2023, they have been consciously building their life together, side by side.
The Proposal Merci Had Been Waiting For
The big question was finally asked on April 4, 2026, on Merci’s birthday, during Easter, at their holiday home in Tiszakécske, surrounded by close family.
By then, Merci had been waiting for the moment for quite some time, but Máté managed to keep the surprise a secret.
When he finally got down on one knee and asked the question, Merci’s answer perfectly captured the sense of humour that has always been such an important part of their relationship:
“Yes… finally someone is going to marry me!”
One sentence that, as their wedding celebrant, immediately told me exactly what kind of ceremony would suit them:
personal and touching, yet light-hearted, joyful and sincere.
A Personalised Wedding Ceremony at Polyák Winery
As a wedding celebrant, one of the most important things for me is never to simply deliver a generic wedding ceremony where only the names have been changed.
I want to get to know the couple and discover those little stories, sentences and shared memories that truly belong to them.
In Merci and Máté’s case, their wonderful sense of humour and the light-hearted way they look at their own relationship added something very special to the ceremony.
So alongside the emotional moments, their wedding ceremony at Polyák Winery was also filled with smiles and laughter.
For me, this is exactly what makes a wedding ceremony truly personal: when the couple and their guests are not simply listening to a “ceremony script”, but can genuinely recognise the two people standing in front of them.
As a Wedding Celebrant, Every Story Is Different
No two couples are the same, and for me, no two wedding ceremonies should ever be the same either.
As a wedding celebrant – in both Hungarian and English – I conduct ceremonies that are built around each couple’s own story, personalities and wishes.
A ceremony can be romantic and emotional, elegant, light-hearted or humorous – what matters most is that it genuinely reflects the two people who are saying “I do” to each other that day.
Merci and Máté’s wedding ceremony at Polyák Winery was exactly that:
personal, emotional, joyful and filled with little details that belonged only to them.
